Soft Shell Jackets
Softshell jackets come in all shapes and sizes. The lightest ones are thin, extremely breathable and highly packable, and may permit airflow. The heaviest ones again are meant for alpine use and can cope with light rain. A common factor with all soft shell jackets is their high level of comfort. Instead of the slightly plasticky feel of a hard shell, softshell materials have a brushed inner surface, which in most cases is comfortable even against bare skin. The original idea behind softshell clothing was to create clothes that were as comfortable as possible as much of the time as possible. And most of the time it’s not raining cats and dogs, so there’s little reason to be wearing a 100% waterproof membrane!
