Hiking Shoes
Hiking shoes have two important factors: a sturdy, supportive ankle area, and a stiff midsole. The ankle support gives a very apparent advantage: it gives protection against rolling your ankle. The stiff midsole, again, will make it less fatiguing to walk on uneven surfaces with a rucksack.
Most of the hiking shoes sold by Scandinavian Outdoor Store have a waterproof and breathable Gore-Tex membrane. It is always positioned inside the structure of the shoe, between the surface material and liner materials. In addition to this, the surface materials are impregnated to be water repellent. Keeping the water repellency impregnation in good condition helps the shoes to breathe well. Swedish Lundhags shoes make an exception: they do not have a membrane, but a solid rubber lower, and a leather upper. An option worth considering!
