Read the whole entry (3 comments)Huh hellettä, sanoi reissunainen ja taas sitä mentiin! Tällä kertaa lähdin Kaakkois-Aasiaa tutkimaan viiden kuukauden ajaksi. Lentokoneesta selvittyani Bangkokin kuuluisalle reppureissaajien kadulle, Khao San Roadille jo pimeän tultua, olin heti matkafiiliksessa ja olo kumman kotoisa kaupustelijoiden keskellä herkullisten tuoksujen tulviessa nenääni.

Read the whole entryNoniin… Vihdoin saatiin kisat pidettyä! Lähes kaoottiselta näyttäneen sään jälkeen taivas repesi sen verran, että laskijat pääsivät mäkeen… Kisapaikka oli hyvin suunniteltu, sillä se tarjosi kaikentasoisille laskijoille mahdollisuuksia. Kaikki paikalle jääneet 25 kilpailijaa saatiin alas mäkeä, turvallisesti ja vauhdikkaasti.

Read the whole entry (2 comments)Seuraava viikko vierähtikin matkustaessa ympäri Koillis ja Itä-Kambodzaa. Vuokrasimme moottoripyörän ja Sandran toimiessa kuskina minä luin käsin piirrettyjä karttoja ja suunnistimme mutu-tuntumalla ympäri kyliä. Siinä alkoi jo olla seikkailun tuntua, kun ajelimme punaisia, kelivauriosta kärsiviä hiekkateitä ylös ja alas kukkuloita, halki kylien joiden asukkaat tulivat nauraen ihmettelemään, mistä moinen blondi parivaljakko heidän mailleen on eksynyt.

Jotta en toistaisi itseani liikaa kertomalla paatahuimaavista moporetkista tai uskomattomista luolista ja vesiputouksista, ajattelin talla kertaa avartaa ikkunaa kaakkois-aasialaiseen kulttuuriin ja elamantapoihin, jotka taalla pain ovat hyvin samanlaiset maasta maahan mentaessa, mutta samalla hyvin omintakeisia. Toisin sanoen: “Same same, but different!’ lainatakseni kaakkois-aasialaisten rakastamaa, joka tilanteeseen sopivaa sanontaa.

Read the whole entryMy plan was to explore every corner of the Kuhankuono bog, now that it was possible by riding. During the summer a large part is a wet peat bog, with some places totally impossible to traverse and except for a few trails with boardwalks a forbidden place.

Mita kertoa maasta, minne saapuessa ensimmaiseksi pitaa kayda vaihtamassa kateisrahat torilla “pimeilla markkinoilla”, mustassa porssissa? No, se kai kuvaa kaikkea muutakin mita tulin kokemaan.

Tahko MTB 180km
Read the whole entryI chose the longest alternative, this year three laps and 180 km, having done the 120 km version twice. The 120 km version is usually considered a real test for a mountain biker, with the longest version being reserved for real athletes. I have no background in sports or athletics and being averagely gifted in this area, it was to be a real test for me.

Read the whole entry (1 comment)The night was warm with almost no wind at all and it did not get dark. Though the sun was below the horizon for four hours, it was just by a few degrees, enough to give a lot of light. I slept well even with the lemmings squeaking around the tent and finally woke around 7:30. It was a nice Sunday morning.

Read the whole entry (1 comment)Pääkaupunkiseudulla on erinomaiset edellytykset retkeilyyn, on mm. Nuuksio ja Sipoonkorpi. Useimmille retkeilijöille nämä retkeilyyn tarkoitetut isot metsäalueet ovat muutaman kymmenen kilometrin ajomatkan päässä.

Late fall bike overnighter
Read the whole entryWhen we arrived at the Marttila area, the singetrack began. The nice trails were mostly new for us and I suspect the surroundings are excellent, though they remained unrevealed in the darkness.
